Faithbrook’s Story

 

Faithbrook Church looks brand new from the outside, but Faithbrook actually has a rich history going all the way back to the 1920’s.

In 1929, four lay-leaders each gave $25 to obtain the property of a disorganized church off of Rice Lake Road in Maple Grove which is now Maple Knoll Cemetery. The church was officially organized as the Maple Grove Church of the Nazarene on December 8, 1929 by District Superintendent S.C. Taylor.

In 1939, an eager young pastor named Ed Johnson was appointed to be the new pastor for a salary of $2.00 per week. Upon his arrival, he found a membership of 19 people and a building in disrepair. After a couple of years of revitalization, the church began to grow. Pastor Ed soon had a vision to relocate to the growing town of Osseo and in 1947 a corner lot was bought at 1st and 3rd Ave NW.


During his 27 years of leadership, Ed Johnson helped grow the church and coordinated multiple additions to the building with the help of strong lay involvement. The Cordells, the Roberts, and the McGilvras also gave pastoral leadership.

In 1996, Pastor Richard and Ronda Sickles lead a charge to build a new sanctuary and lobby with the help of many volunteers. The Sickles would later be elected to the role of District Superintendents for the Minnesota District.


In 2001, Pastor Jim Comfort came to be the new Lead Pastor. It was soon apparent that the I-94 corridor was growing and expanding past Osseo. The church leadership started praying about their long-term future.

In 2007, the Osseo Church membership voted to relocate to be more visible, more accessible and better positioned to intercept the future growth in the area. Pastor Jim challenged Osseo Church, “to dream and risk for the next generation, not the comfort of the current members.”

God answered their prayers and opened up a beautiful piece of property on the edge of Maple Grove and Dayton.


In 2009, Faithbrook’s current 12-acre property was purchased for $625,000. The church leadership quickly began raising money and drawing up construction plans. Unfortunately, the economy fell into a recession and put a halt to all of the relocation plans. 

The people of Osseo Church remained faithful to God’s mission and vision while having to wait patiently. In 2015, God honored their diligence and prayers and started opening the doors that would make the relocation possible again. Nine critical miracles took place for the church to be able to make the leap.


Ground was finally broken in 2016 and Osseo Church was officially renamed and rebranded as Faithbrook Church. During the year of construction, Faithbrook became a mobile church that met in the upstairs ballroom at Sundance Golf Course.

Just as Faithbrook began construction, the developers across the street broke ground on what would become a new community with 900 homes.

God also provided a miraculous grant from the John C. Lasko Foundation for $700,000 to help pay for Faithbrook’s new sanctuary. 


Faithbrook Church moved into their new building in July of 2017 and publicly launched with a Grand Opening in September of 2017. Faithbrook has continued to grow and make an impact for Christ in the community.
